GENERAL INFORMATION
Plaza Industry Ota PiO, the venue of the 31st conference on Rapid Prototyping, is located in Ota ward in the southern part of Tokyo. Home to many small and medium sized companies, this industrial ward is located about 20 to 30 minutes to major city areas inTokyo like Shinjuku and Ginza by train.
This is accessible by several train lines (JR Keihin Tohoku Line, Keihin Kyuko Line). The Keihin Kyuko Line Keikyu Kamata Station is however the nearest to the conference site. Since not many hotels are located in the ward itself, hotels around Shinagawa Station are recommended (please see Hotel Information).
From Narita International Airport, major areas in Tokyo can be easily reached by the AIRPORT LIMOUSINE BUS and JR NARITA EXPRESS.
The AIRPORT LIMOUSINE BUS departs from the airport arrival lobbies and stops at major hotels and terminals in the destination areas (Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, Shinagawa, Tokyo Station, Yokohama, etc.) bound for. It will take about 90 to 120 minutes from the airport to these areas, depending on traffic conditions.
JR NARITA EXPRESS is an express train that runs from the airport to major areas in Tokyo (Shinjuku, Tokyo Station, Ikebukuro, Yokohama, etc.). The train leaves the airport at hourly intervals and takes about 90 minutes into Tokyo.
Please note that taxi rides from the airport to major areas in Tokyo cost more than \30,000.
All foreign visitors entering Japan must have a valid passport. Depending on some countries, participants must obtain a visa from the Japanese Consulate or Embassy in their countries prior to their departures. It is the responsibility of participants to obtain all documents necessary for entry into Japan. You are advised to contact your local travel agent or air carrier for further details.
Visitors to Tokyo during the symposium period in the end of June can experience typical rainy season weather of Tokyo. The average temperature during this time is usually between 15 and 25. Participants are advised to bring their regular early summer clothing and of course their umbrellas.
Most stores and restaurants in Japan accept only Japanese Yen. Yen can be purchased at the airport and foreign exchange banks. The exchange rate fluctuates daily.
Though travelerfs checks are accepted by leading banks and major hotels in the city, it should be noted that travelerfs checks are not as popular in Japan as in other countries.
Major credit cards (American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard, and VISA) are widely accepted at hotels, stores, restaurants, but not by major transportation systems.
The electric current used throughout Japan is 100V, though there are regional
differences in frequency. Some hotels provide two sockets for 110 and 220V
respectively, and converters.
